THE MYTHS

December 21, 2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar, but is it the end of our time here on earth?  The clock is ticking down to Dec 21, 2012, the supposd end of the Mayan Calendar.

The end of the 5125-year-old "Long Count" Mayan calendar is Dec. 21. And you know what that means: death, apocalypse, doom, world destruction. The world as we know it is coming to an end.

Or most likely, not.

Most scientists have debunked the theory about the Mayans predicting the demise of humanity. But even the U.S. government felt compelled to post a blog on its official website, stating: "False rumors about the end of the world in 2012 have been commonplace on the Internet for some time. Many of these rumors involve the Mayan calendar ending in 2012, a comet causing catastrophic effects (definitely not), a hidden planet sneaking up and colliding with us, and many others.

Those who believe that Nostradamus had prophetic knowledge about the future will find ways to point out that his predictions agree with the ancient Mayans. Believers in the approach of the Rapture will also find validation in these predictions. Those who pay attention to science may worry about global warming, a collision with an asteroid or the impending blowout of the super-volcano lurking under Yellowstone. There are those who worry about experiments at CERN in Switzerland. Will they create a black hole that will swallow us all? It's easy to find circumstances around the globe that could bring the end to the world as we know it.

THE CON-ARTISTS

There are lots of con-artists that can't wait to take advantage of the fears of those that have taken the December 21, 2012 myths to heart. They want to sell you survival kits, bug out kits, bomb shelters, guns, canned food, bottled water, and the list goes on and on. They want to separate you from your money and some are making huge profits doing so. This is fueled by televisions shows showing people preparing for the end, hoarding food, digging shelters, and wearing combat gear.

Many people have websites on this subject which creates ad revenue, and sells their Ebooks and survival products. This date has been blown out of proportion for pure greed. Another reason is for recruiting religious groups. Any time there is the possibility of a world changing disaster people feel more inclined to convert to a religion for two reasons. The first being that maybe there devine being they worship may spare them from the catastrophe, and the second being that they will go to heaven or a similar place apposed to hell. These are the reasons why some are spreading fear about this date.

LEGAL ADVICE

So what should you do to prepare for December 21, 2012?  First, do not give your money away, sell all your possesions, and get ready to die. Nothing is going to happen on December 21, 2012 . Second do not give your money to scammers trying to sell you survival gear, bomb shelters, gas masks, and MRE's (meals ready to eat).  These people are in the business of making money by scaring you, and selling you things you don't need. Third, do not sign any contracts, or make any legal decsions based upon anything happening on December 21, 2012 that you otherwise would not have been going to do anyway. Fourth, do not join a church or cult that you otherwise would not have become involved with. FInally,  consult with a lawyer before making any legal decisions, entering into contracts, or making any substantial changes in your life.

Nothing different is going to happen on December 21, 2012 so relax and enjoy the day!
